The vaporetto line 6 of the public transport agency ACTV is the fastest line available to reach the Venetian Lido since it makes only a few stops along the route.

Venice Vaporetto line 6 ACTV
The vaporetto line 6 ACTV begins its itinerary at the stop by the bus station (Piazzale Roma), there it travels along the external western perimeter of the city, where it stops at some of the more popular stops along its route such as Zattere, Giardini della Biennale and Lido, the last stop.
This line is the most practical for those tourists who need to move to and from this side of Venice and the Lido. This quick line to the Lido offers a panoramic view on the Venetian laguna and gives the opportunity to visit a number of attraction along its itinerary.

Please note that the busiest stops (usually those closest to the main attractions) have more than one platform, and all are located close to one another. Each pier is indicated by the name of the stop and then a letter in progression.
Bear in mind that the stops to and from Lido are on the same platform, not on the opposite sides of the canal. Be careful which direction the boat you are about to board travels to.
Line 6 Timetables
The vaporetto Line 6 ACTV is active exclusively during daytime from Monday to Saturday.
In Venice vaporetto timetables are subject to change and seasonal variation.
Although the changes are minor, we recommend always checking the official ACTV site – Line 6 and/or the timetables indicated on the displays next to the piers for up-to-date information.
In the itinerary from P.le Roma to Lido S.M.E. rides are available approximately from 6:20 a.m. to 8:20 p.m.
The opposite route from Lido to P.le Roma is active from about 6:40 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Water-buses are available every 20 minutes in both directions.
Vaporetto line 6 stops and attractions
The water-bus line 6 is a fast line which makes only few stops in the most turistic places of the city located along its route. During the path to and from the Venetian Lido it is possible to hop off and visit a variety of attractions located at walking distance from the stops.

Connections with the mainland
- P.LE ROMA: it is the bust station where you can take transfers to and from the airport. It is located a few steps away from Giardino di Papadopoli, a little quiet park, usually popular with students. We suggest you take a break there since it is one of the rare shaded areas in Venice
Dorsoduro
- S.MARTA: near this stop you will find one of the most ancient churches of Venice: the Chiesa di San Nicolò dei Mendicoli. This church deserves to be visited because of its historic importance and rich decorations.
- SAN BASILIO: here you can take a long walk along the laguna and stop at the Squero di San Trovaso, which is the oldest shipyard in Venice. It is a unique experience to be able to observe local artisans repair gondolas, so we advise you to add this stop to your itinerary!
- ZATTERE: stopping here you will find yourself at walking distance from the Squero di San Trovaso (a typical rowing court in Venice) you can see how gondolas are built and repaired. You can observe the Squero and the artisans at work for free by standing on the opposite side of the canal. you will find yourself next to a typical venetian pub, a bacaro, so we suggest you enjoy a spritz and some cicchetti in the meantime.
Castello
- SPIRITO SANTO: here you will find the Chiesa della Salute (In English St. Mary of health). The ideal period to visit this church is during the Festa della Madonna della Salute on November 21st, which is a long awaited festivity in Venice. In the days right before and after the holiday charity events and cultural initiatives are organized all over the city for this occasion.
- GIARDINI “B” : the stop is located next to the Giardini della Biennale which houses the foreign pavillions of the exhibition. It is an evocative place which deserves to be visited especially during the opening period of the Biennale exhibition.
- S. ELENA – STADIO P. L. PENZO “C”: this stop is located few minutes away by foot from St. Elena’s Church with its beautiful architecture and tranquillity of its gardens. It is possible to rest there especially after a long visit of the rest of the city.
Lido S.M.E.
- LIDO S.M.E “D” : this is the last stop of vaporetto line 6. Here you can enjoy a bycicle ride around the Venetian Lido to discover the naturalistic and historical beauty of this area of Venice.
Vaporetto line 6 ACTV tickets and fares
Venice vaporettos are operated by the local transit authority ACTV. To travel on the water-buses, you’ll need either a single-fare ticket (valid for 75 minutes), all-day or multi-day ticket (available up to 7 days).
ACTV vaporetto tickets allow unlimited travel on public water during the validity period of the ticket you purchased.

Which ticket is more convenient
Clearly the convenience of each vaporetto ticket depends on some variables such as your itinerary, period of stay and frequency of use of public transport.
The water-bus line 6 offers a short route that connects the bust station (Piazzale Roma) to the Venetian Lido, therefore it is intended to provide a rapid connection service. With this premise, if you plan on travelling by vaporetto to reach distant parts of Venice and then discover the city and its surroundings by walking, then a single-fare ticket for each path would be the most cost-effective option.
Contrarily if your visit to the Lido (or your trip to Venice from the Lido) is part of an extensive itinerary that might perhaps include some of the islands of the Venetian archipelago then, travelling at least three times by vaporetto in a day, purchasing a daily ticket would be the most convenient option.

Vaporetto line 6 ACTV tickets are available both online and at the box offices located next to the vaporetto platforms in Venice.
The online and in-person prices are the same, however there are some advantages that only purchasing your tickets online can offer.

Most online websites allow you to purchase your vaporetto line 6 tickets directly on your smartphone, so you can skip the long queues in front of the box offices and go to the vaporetto platforms straight away.
You can buy your tickets ahead of time, because their validity is calculated upon the first validation.

If water reaches 95 cm the vaporetto line 6 service undergoes some temporary variations.
Rides will be rerouted via Grand Canal and will be limited to the route between P.le Roma and Lido S.M.E. (and vice versa).

From October to March, fog covering the canals is also very frequent. Whenever visibility is lower than 150 meters, the itinerary of vaporetto line 6 will be momentarily suspended until visibility conditions have improved.
These phenomena occur yearly, therefore our suggestion is to organize a flexible itinerary including a number of alternative destinations in case of bad weather and high tide.
